“I Run…”

Happy National Running Day! I celebrated early this morning with a nice, easy paced 8 miles to recover from my track workout yesterday. Sometimes those easy runs are the best.

Today I’m participating in Cori’s “I Run…” statement link-up – make sure to head on over to her blog to check out everyone’s posts about why they run!

When I first sat down to write this post I had no idea what I was going to say. There is no way that I can express all the reasons why I run in one short statement. There are so many things that have influenced my love of running and my drive to get up early each morning and go for a run. In the end I came up with an overwhelming list of ways to complete the statement “I Run…”, some serious, some funny, and some that reminded me of things that have slipped my mind recently.

So I apologize for not having a short, succinct post for you today but I thought I would share all the reasons (I can currently think of) why “I Run…”

I Run…

… to connect with friends, near and far. Running with friends is seriously the best thing ever! Waking up before dawn and chatting for hours on long runs really leads to close bonds. Even when we live on opposite sides of the country we are still connected through our love of running and our constant need to talk about it with each other! 20140329-210719.jpg… for the uniforms. Runderwear/buns/spankies are quite a sexy fashion statement, yes?317_524253764176_273_n (1)

Buns, buns, buns.

… because runners are the best people. Runners are a strange breed and I’m proud to be one of them! Some of the best times in my life have been spent with my running friends.

… to push myself to the next level of the sport and to be the best athlete I can be. Racing is the reward that we get for all the hard work we put in day after day. I run so that I’m prepared when race day comes! 429845_3162002940416_1354025593_n… because nothing compares to that feeling after a hard workout or really long run. That heavy-legged, let me lay down right here and drink a liter of water is what I live for!photo 1 (51)… to be a part of something bigger than myself. No matter how many individual titles and races I win there is something so special about being part of a team and working hard together to achieve something great!

XC invitational champs!

… because it’s in my blood. Running is something that nearly everyone in my family shares. I was so lucky to get to run XC and track with my sister in high school and every time my fam does a Turkey Trot or 5K together I’m on cloud nine!

… because after all those racing photos you feel like you look 10000x better in any other picture. (These aren’t even the most unfortunate racing photos I have of myself… haha)217714_1829856437586_3952290_n

480935_10151556580602152_516333086_n… to experience nature in the best way possible, on foot. 286583_1903458476966_117899_o… because the thigh gap is overrated. I would much rather have strong, muscular legs that can carry me 26.2 miles!

… for my sanity and for the sanity of those around me. Just ask my family and friends – everyone is much happier when I’ve gotten in my daily run!

… Because ice cream. Well, because any dessert really! Oh-kay – because FOOD in general… 😉photo 5 (8)I run… because (after Henri) running is my one true love!photo 5 (28)———————————————————————————————

What is your “I Run…” statement?

  1. Yes, yes, and yes 🙂 I run for all of these reasons. I LOLed at the one about how all of your other pictures look more photogenic- SO TRUE!

  2. Hahaha YES my running photos are so bad that I think I look pretty great in just about everything else. Also, I consider myself “dressed up” if I put on something other than running clothes, even if it’s jeans and a sweatshirt. Low bar set 🙂

  3. LOL at buns, buns, buns! 🙂 I think it’s natural for us runners to have multiple reasons for why we run. I’ve never spoken to a runner about running and we stop the conversation after one sentence 😉 One statement just isn’t enough, right?

  4. amen girl. i agree with every reason you run. it’s crazy how sport can unite people even in the most difficult of times. running is unique because it’s an individual sport, but an individual sport you can do with others! three cheers for running!! 🙂

  5. loooooove! I run for me. It’s the one thing that I don’t need anyone else to do for me – it’s all me! Loved the one about being crabby unless you’ve gotten your run in for the day. So true lol!

  6. Great reasons to run! Especially the buns and the terrible race photos:) i celebrated with 4 miles this morning, but more importantly I spent the day thinking about why I run and reading about other people’s reasons for running!
